Aluminum arbors are custom made from stock components. They are maintenance free and provide a clean, rich look and cool feel. Your choice of post type can enhance the over all look. This actually is two Arbors side by side, one 14' x 16' and one 12' x 10' for a over all width of 28'. The columns are 10' round and tapered. A wood reinforced cross member was added for the later installation of a ceiling fan, it is visible in the center of the above photo.

The Arbors

The support post were custom made for this job and the roof is stock components. Roofing slats are 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" at 3" center to center spacing. The support beams are 3" x 8" and doubled up over the post with lumber inserts for added strength, the
2" x 6" double beams that supports the roofing slats, are attached at the house wall and extend outward, they are attached to the overhead 3" x 8" beam with short 3" x 3" post. This gives the roof an open airy unsupported look. Ceiling fans were added later on the solid cross beam visible in the center of the ceiling. Round post cost about #300 each plus shipping.

The support beams and post top details are visible at left. Square post bases were used to contrast with the round post.

The custom post added to the overall cost of this project but made all the difference in the look and feel of the completed patio.
