Patio furniture and patio covers as well as carports and other products made from aluminum are declining in price. As the price of aluminum increased in 2006 and 2007 the price of aluminum products went up as much as 20% in price. Those increases are now being reversed as the world demand for commodities have declined. You can see this decline in the cost to produce aluminum products in a recent Reynolds aluminum foil TV commercial offering 5 extra feet of foil free.
Aluminum is used extensively in the manufacture of patio furniture, especially cast aluminum furniture. Prices are declining at the wholesale level from 5% to 18% depending on the amount of aluminum used to make a particular item. Most stores will pass this along to the consumer.
Patio Covers and Carports Kits made from aluminum have declined (at wholesale) about 15% on average this year. Most manufacturers do not make price reductions until they have depleted their on hand inventory, so it takes a while to work the price reductions through the distribution system. Most of the price reductions will show up in the stores by spring 2010.
